Green Fleet Systems started simply as an idea to find a potential market for the operation of alternative-fuel powered tractors. After much research is soon became apparent that a professionally organized drayage company, operating clean burning vehicles out of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, had the potential to become a market leader.
The company’s first big step came in September 2007, when GFS was awarded a grant subsidy for fourteen LNG powered tractors by the Port of Los Angeles under the Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP). The CAAP is an aggressive measure taken by the Ports of Lo Angeles and Long Beach to drastically reduce emissions from trucks and other forms of transportation in the Southern California Basin. The plan’s proposition is to reduce overall air emissions from diesel trucks by 50 percent in 5 years by helping to finance a new generation of clean or retrofitted vehicles.
Four months later, in January 2008, Green Fleet Systems acquired Pac-Rim Container Service, Inc., a leader in the harbor drayage business for over 20 years. Having taken over full operations of Pac-Rim’s assets, Green Fleet Systems is currently servicing all former customers of Pac-Rim, and continues to add additional customers. GFS’ intention to of continued growth will be managed by offering flexible solutions to our clients, providing outstanding service levels, ensuring the highest safety standards, continued use of alternative fuel tractors and expanding into new markets.
